Steve Bershad - Founder

Steve is a native Southern Californian. Raised and educated in California, he has a lifelong attachment to the land and spirit of the West.

After a successful career in law and investment banking, Steve left Wall Street in 1986 to build Axsys Technologies, a leading long-range infrared optics company. Steve sold his interest in Axsys in 2009, which gave him an opportunity to return to his California roots.

He formed Rancho Guacamole LLC, which purchased El Refugio Ranch and Refugio Canyon Ranch, two neighboring farms that had been part of Rancho Nuestra Señora del Refugio. Steve recruited General Manager John Bowden to modernize and revitalize the combined properties. Steve’s many years of experience in industry, finance, and law and his love of the California coast bring a unique sensibility to the restoration of this historic ranch and growth of the Rancho Guacamole company.

John Bowden - General Manager

John grew up in the Central Valley of California, and since he was a kid, he has valued the idea of being connected to and caring for the land.

He graduated from Cal Poly in 2007 with a double major in Agricultural Business and Fruit Science. John’s talent for trees shows in both the business and the beauty of our land.
